How do you get Incognito to open a link from an external source, such as email. Incognito mode works great unless you click a link from email or whatever, then the regular Chrome opens.

I just stumbled upon this. I see it is 2 years old and maybe things have changed. My problem is if I click on a link within an email, Chrome will still open in regular mode even though I already have an incognito window already open. Is there a way to solve this too?

I am trying to get my business set up and not a pro at all of this. I have been using Firefox and want to change to Chrome because of the speed and the opportunity to use my Google talk and Google Voice etc. I don't want to loose all my browsing history and or passwords. I am an Internet Market Researcher and an Executive Search Recruiter so it's important that I have my history available. And passwords, well, of course they are important. The computer I am setting up first is my Window 7 64 bit Home Premium. I will do the Vista afterwards. I would love it if someone would walk me through this process and or send me an email for help. Cutting and pasting all of the stuff somewhere would work best for me as writing all this code I am bound to mess up somewhere!!!!

Also, I am using a Magic Jack, I was out of the country and it was the only way to call outside of the country. Spent all my money to get back and so now I am trying to figure out the best way to incorporate my Google Voice or Google Talk to have a new phone number to use for business for incoming and outgoing and faxing? I have got a cell phone but don't have the money right now to get all the features I would want as I would like to use it too around the house to call and get incoming. Currently I have a Nokia N95. My Xperia X1 was stolen! I may have to buy a cheap Phone and do minutes to get a number or phone that will work without a contract as right now there is no money coming in!!! I do have a Straight Talk card and a cheap cheap LG phone without Bluetooth or WiFi, hopefully they will let me use one of those.....

Any expertise and help would be great!

Lengthy message...

This works very well for me and I have many thanks. However, I have an obnoxious problem when I open the app. If ScriptEditor is open, I get a window that says:
    System Events got an error: Can’t get menu item
    "Google" of menu "Window" of menu bar item
    "Window" of menu bar 1 of process "Google Chrome".
If I have the editor closed completely (command + Q), then I get a notification behind the chrome incog window that says:
    Can't get <> "Google" of <> "Window" of <> "Window"
    of <> 1 of <> "Google
    Chrome" of application "System Events".
I then get the two options of "Edit" and "OK". When I click Edit, it opens ScriptEditor to the code of this app. Now, when I run the app from ScriptEditor, get the message, and then click "OK", ScriptEditor highlights the line that I put asterisks around:
		tell menu bar item "Window"
			tell menu "Window"
				*click menu item "Google"*
			end tell
		end tell
I have Google as my homepage on Chrome, the File Format is an Application, the options of "Run Only", "Startup Screen", and "Stay Open" are all unchecked. Help?

Google released an AppleScript dictionary for Google Chrome. Which means we can do this in a much more elegant way than before. Below please find the script I created to use the Google Chrome AppleScript dictionary.

Whenever the script is run, no matter what state Google Chrome is in, it will present the user an Incognito window. (Rather than merely caring to launch Google Chrome with an Incognito window it always handles the case where Google Chrome is already running!)

tell application “Google Chrome”
if it is running then
tell application “System Events” to set frontmost of process “Google Chrome” to true — brings application to front
set theIncognitoWindow to null
repeat with theCurrentWindow in windows
if mode of theCurrentWindow is “incognito” then
set theIncognitoWindow to theCurrentWindow
exit repeat
end if
end repeat
if theIncognitoWindow is null then
make new window with properties {mode:”incognito”}
else
– uncomment the below code to make new tab in the incognito when it brought to front
– make new tab at end of tabs of theIncognitoWindow
set visible of theIncognitoWindow to true
end if
else
activate application “Google Chrome”
close every window
make new window with properties {mode:”incognito”}
end if
end tell

Many ways to do this. My preferred way is
*You might need to change the path to Google Chrome.app

1) mv “/Applications/Google Chrome.app/Contents/MacOS/Google Chrome” “/Applications/Google Chrome.app/Contents/MacOS/GoogleChrome”

2) compile this C code, to “/Applications/Google Chrome.app/Contents/MacOS/Google Chrome”

***you must add the angular brackets around the include .h (otherwise is passes as HTML code)
===============
#include stdio.h   // add the angular brackets
#include unistd.h // add the angular brackets

int main () {
execl(“/Applications/Google Chrome.app/Contents/MacOS/GoogleChrome”, “GoogleChrome”, “–incognito”, (char *)0 );
return 0;
}
===============

3) now google chrome will launch in incognito all the time, without adding extra useless icons in the dock.

note new window and reclicking on the dock icon will launch plain windows, no work around for that.

I have done is to create a batch file with the script below (please change the directory as needed).
Then create a shortcut to the batch file as workaround

cd /D D:\Documents and Settings\vfan\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\
chrome.exe -incognito

Your accessibility Frameworks are disabled. You can enable it by clicking the checkbox labeled "Enable access for assistive devices" in the Universal Access System under Preference.

Let me know if it solved your problem.
Good Luck

That was meant to be:

do shell script “/Applications/Google\ Chrome.app/Contents/MacOS/Google\ Chrome –incognito &> /dev/null &”

Or:

do shell script "/Applications/Chromium.app/Contents/MacOS/Chromium --incognito &> /dev/null &"

for Chromium
And

do shell script "/Applications/Google\ Chrome.app/Contents/MacOS/Google\ Chrome --incognito"

For Google.
A tad simpler

This worked great with both Chrome and Chromium on the Mac, thanks!

Unfortunately, in Chromium you it looks like Extensions don't function when using incognito mode, not sure if that is intended but it makes this useless.

As an alternative, do you have a script to clear browsing history on exit?

Windows Vista: in Properties there are no apostrophes around the target. Placing "-incognito" at the end isn't working. Suggestions? I made sure to leave a space at the end of ".exe".

No, it does not make any difference where you save the file.

I created a new post that explains how to make an application from the script.
Check it out <a href="http://www.coolgeex.com/create-an-application-that-start-google-chrome-in-incognito-mode/" rel="nofollow">how to create an application that start google chrome in incognito mode/</a>
Good Luck

Hi Vacharya, Thanks for Visiting Our Site.

The method described for MAC users doesn't Hack Google Chrome Browser.
If you look at the code, it's basically start Google Chrome, opens Incognito Window for you and close the Regular Chrome window.
You should create a shortcut for the script or Save the script as Application.

Let Me know if you need additional assistant.

Hello,
I was trying to follow the instructions for MAC. Everything works fine for that particular time. But when I start the chrome next time, it doesn't open in incognito mode. Do you see any problem?

Another question is, the last step compile and save, where we need to save that file? does that make any difference?
